The academy gallery

The Academy Gallery was commissioned in 1784 as both an Academy of Fine Arts as well as a location for young artists to view works by the old masters. Today, the gallery is most known for containing numerous sculptures by Michelangelo, especially the David.

Other artists whose works reside in the gallery, include the following: Giambologna, Giovanni di Ser Giovanni, Botticelli, and Perugino. Flemish tapestries, Medieval furniture, Byzantine paintings, and paintings from the school of Giotto also exist in the gallery.
