Ponte Vecchio
The Ponte Vecchio or “Old Bridge” was built over the Arno River at its narrowest point during Medieval times. As was common during that time, shops were built on the bridge. Though butchers originally made use of the shops, today the shops house jewelry, art, and souvenirs. The bridge was destroyed several times by floods and rebuilt using sturdier materials. Asmall dedication stone exists at the main entrance to the bridge.
